Crib for new born Jesus

I have lots of memories about the xmas holidays of my childhood days. The most colorful among them is the crib making session after the xmas exams. Three of us (myself, appu & kochu)makes all the plans together. Appu  cuts and brings  all the bamboo sticks. Myself and Kochu ties it in the form of a house.  Very soon there will be  a big  fight. beating, crying etc etc..Atlast amma has to come and calm down the atmosphere.
She used to say " Infant jesus wont come to the fighting kids home!!"  Finally Appu  makes a new one in the backyard. We will be left with some  sticks and nobody to help. I remember one year we had two cribs in our house. :)
But anyhow we never missed to make a crib at home for  every xmas.
Years flew away and now i am settled in UAE. When the xmas came i made xmas tree and all other decroations. But something was missing. I knew what it was. But i couldnt get any supplies to make a crib. so that xmas went without a crib.
But the next year i decided to make one small crib to venerate the infant jesus. Had no clue from where to start. I cut one cardboard box in the shape of a house. Covered the whole house with wooden skewers used
for barbeque. It was a tedious job, especially with one small kid  who meddles everything. Had to resize the skewers into my crib's size. Then glue it and paste it. I had to repeat it for each skewer. But i am happy that  the whole effort dint become futile.

Though it took almost 1 week to complete the house ,it worth the effort. The craftsmanship was appreciated by all who dropped in during xmas season. I was astonished with delight.

Nowadays we get readymade crib set in UAE also. But such readymade things gives us  no gratification. These handmade works reminds us the pain and effort behind it..That makes u happy and content.

Plastic Canvas Photo Frame

This is my frist attempt on a plastic canvas project. Have gone through many projects in different blogs. But have never tried it. This time i decided to give it a try .You can find the pattern here. It was a calendar project. But i converted it into a frame for St. Joseph's picture which i got from last year's church calendar.
Sorry..the photo has not done justice to the  work.

Here comes a closer view.

Thats all for the day!!! Signing off today with a bye from my lil one..

Papercraft Family Tree

I love to display the photos of my kids in my house. I always make sure there is a photo wall in my home. At first i had one like this in my corridor.

This was big enough for the corridor. But now we have shifted to a new house which is too big compared to the former one, with lots of empty walls. So i felt the photo frame cluttering wont work for these big walls. Started looking for a different plan. After so much of googling one idea struck my eyes.

Its cost was 100 dollars.Since it was too much expensive for me to buy i decided to make one by myself. Bought black chart paper from Borders. Cut out the templates of leaves, branches and birds on that.My artist husband helped me out in it. Then cut it using a cutter, hot glued on the wall. Finally the ikea photo frames took their positions with the help of a double sided tape. This was the result.

    A long view.

A close up view

I know its not at all perfect compared to the original one. Its cissy's minature version :) But still i love it and it makes our dining room  wall lively.

Solla wood roses

This was my first attempt to make roses with sollawood.
The sollawood roll is available in any craftstore. What you have to do is first cut the roll into differnt sized petals, arrange and tie it in  the shape of a rose flower, apply apray paint on it.I used copper and golden color.

the second  attempt was to decorate the christening basket of my godson!!

Xmas Wreath....

This xmas i made an attempt to make a wreath by myself and it ended up here.

I untied a hanger and made it into a circle pattern. then wrapped it with the xmas leaves.finally decorated with red cherries and xmas tree ornaments. Thats all..Its done!!

Baggy cat

Meow!!!This kitchen kitty's skirt swells out when filled up with empty plastic grocery bags...

This is one of my first projects and its super easy to make. Grocery bags are something which is unavoidable in a kitchen. So if you could make one pussy like this it will be really useful. I am sure it can adorn your kitchen.
You can get the link for this pattern here.

I dint like the colors given in the pattern. So i changed it. Also i dint follow the pattern for the face. Tried out that, but dint come out well. So i made one with my own pattern.

Crocheted Xmas tree!!

This page is dedicated for all crochet lovers like me...

This is a crocheted xmas tree... This is an excellent piece for xmas table top decoration. i  ornamented the tree with simple red satin ribbon bows. u can do any other decoration. i think small candy canes can make the tree more beautiful . but i dint get time to make it.The link for this pattern is given below. A step by step clear description is given in that page. I am very poor in writing down the pattern. So copying and pasting some one else's link. :)
